My name is Irene Alicia Licata. I’ve been an Educator in the Argentina-Uruguay Team since 2010. I have been responsible for the team’s Internal Culture pole since January 2023. I practice my profession in a town called San Juan, which is located at the foot of the Andes Mountains and 1200 km from Buenos Aires, the capital of the country.
I was able to attend the International Assemblies in Canada (2012) and France (2016), paying for my travel and accommodation out of my income as a teacher and educator.
For the last four years my ability to save has been decreasing and, only thanks to the fact that I share expenses with my husband, we can together afford to manage the upkeep of our home and maintain an acceptable standard of living, in a middle class hit by growing inflation, which has been fluctuating between 10% and 12% per month, which means that it is expected to reach 150% by the end of this year. Currently our country’s population consists of 42% poor people and a large percentage of the rest of us are barely above what is considered the poverty line.
With my savings I could pay for the air tickets to the Assembly in Italy 2024, but I could not afford the costs of the meeting, accommodation, and food; for which the IAAR’s support would be a great help and would give me the possibility to attend this meeting. I am motivated to meet personally with so many educators with whom I have built a connection via internet; to contribute to the meetings with my presence and my fire; as well as to collaborate in the preparation of some events. I know that every international meeting brings an impetus to our Foundation and to every educator’s mission in their own region.
After the years of the Pandemic, with the impact it had on us, and the global tensions that our humanity is experiencing, we need and I need to meet, in order to meet a human world in need of us. The contribution that IAAR can make to those educators who are going through various difficulties, will mean continuing to contribute to making this world a little more humane.
