Brigitta Raith is a PRH educator. She has been living and working in Kinshasa for 25 years.

She has already given a short workshop to students of ISTA (L’Institut Supérieur des Techniques Appliquées), in Kinshasa, DRC. Here are a few pictures:

Since high school these students have been trained in science and engineering. They are the future technicians of society.

During the training they do not get many opportunities to develop their personalities, to gain insight into themselves and their behaviour, to have a notion of psychology and how to deal with relationships.

Furthermore, they also have no financial resources. Most of them have to pay for their own education because their parents are poor.

In Kinshasa, the ISTA students have a negative image. They are seen as aggressive people who are quick to rebel, who have difficulties with authority and who are often involved in confrontations with the police.

Many of them really want to make a positive contribution to the change in society and their living environment. They are young people brimming with idealism, but they have not learned how to experience these ideals in a positive manner.

Therefore, they have to learn to control themselves and get along better with others and society in general. Teaching them more about humanity is very important.

It goes without saying that one short workshop is not enough.

That is why we want to offer them further opportunities by means of this project.

Contents of the Project

The participants receive three different courses:

  1. They learn how to establish contact with others in everyday life in an authentic way.
  2. They are made aware of the image they have of themselves and how they can evolve towards a healthier form of self-confidence.
  3. They learn to gain insight into their capacities and how to further develop these. They learn to understand their feelings and are taught methods to obtain a more harmonious functioning. They learn to get in touch with their inner strength in order to turn aspirations into positive actions.
  4. In addition, they can also request individual coaching.

This project costs a total of 500 USD for the whole package. The participants themselves contribute 1 to 5 USD per training.
