Papua New Guinea
The effects of PRH training in a group of drug addicts in Papua New Guinea.
We live and work with people who speak Pidgin or Simplified English. Many among them are addicted to drugs. They all went to school for a short period but soon they came in contact with marijuana, which is easily cultivated in Papua New Guinea. It is internationally known as the “gold of PNG”. They smoke, try to deal or exchange it for guns. They start drinking and get involved in raids. What else can they do? For them it seems as if there is no work and no future. Being addicted to drugs they are expelled from their community. Their lives seem meaningless. We try to find these people and give them PRH training.
At present, 40 of them have changed their lives completely. They are engaged as volunteers. They are reintegrated into their communities and they all speak of how PRH has helped them change their lives.
They have found a new life, thanks to PRH, as well as self esteem and happiness. We try to accompany them in their lives. Of course, some of them start smoking and drinking again, but they keep coming back and learn how to get back on their feet. They do not lose hope anymore.
Six courses have been translated into Pidgin and most of the other ones into English. We really appreciate your donations which help us in translating the material - we would like to express our gratitude.

Daniel – young man from Argentina
I had a life without any hope, with parents who lacked the wisdom to receive and raise the child that I was. I did not have any opportunities to develop myself. However, I refused to be resigned to this situation and as soon as I was an adult I started to look around. It was then that I encountered PRH and that I discovered that I was not as bad as I thought. On the contrary, I discovered my own positive qualities and in spite of my frustrations and wounds I know that life is worth living.
Today I don’t feel empty handed in the face of my adversaries because I learned how to defend myself and what gives me strength. I have grown. I became a different human being in a couple of years. Others have also noticed this. I got the chance to do something and I took that chance. For one reason or another my life now has meaning.

Viviane – mother and mentor of children in need in Benin.
The course “Helping children to become themselves” made me a mother and a better tutor. I feel that I take more care of the future and the education of the children for whom I am responsible. As far as my own children are concerned, I became a mother who has the patience to explain things over and over again and who is a good example. Other children look at me as “the mother who never hits her children”.

Isaac – a man from Haiti
I realize that I am not responsible for my father’s deeds. My father married my mother but he has other women. He has six children with one woman,
one child with three other women and seven with
my mother. I discovered the causes of what hurt
me and why I am so shy. I could not resist my father’s hard-heartedness and strictness.
On the other hand, what fill me with joy is his courage, his nerve, his ability to overlook things. That is why I have a lot of esteem for him and his personality.
Now I have discovered my freedom and the desire to be myself. I am me and he is him. That is the reason why I am not afraid to diverge from what he did.
I am proud of myself and my journey towards autonomy.
