Through the expansion of PRH into several developing countries, we were faced with the need for financial support in order to assure the personal development of those needing it the most.
Underdevelopment is often connected to a lack of progress in personality or in social skills. Without personal development, only some behaviours and habits tied to poverty can change. If individuals have not built themselves sufficiently on a number of values and if they have not reached a certain degree of autonomy, they remain easy victims of alienation and dependency.
Many aid projects essentially aim at meeting primary needs, and some structural development, but insufficient attention is given to the growth of the person and his/her relationships, which are often the key to success in several areas of development.
The failure or the inadequacy of development projects is often due to a lack of personal development, or to survival behaviour to the exclusion of all else. Focussing only on economic and structural improvement, without taking personal development into account, is a pitfall.
By creating IAAR, we want to address this problem. We want to encourage people to support others on an ongoing basis in their personal development. In this way, these people receiving help will develop their creative potential for social and structural change.
